Christian Leadership

Dallas Theological Seminary values Christlike leadership that equips others and emphasizes humility with sacrificial service.

The seminary is committed to helping leaders develop a biblical philosophy of servant-hearted leadership as defined and modeled by Jesus Christ and other godly individuals depicted in the Scriptures. Such leadership results from the gracious working of God through a person’s experience, training, spiritual gifting, natural talents, and the enablement of God’s Spirit. One of the Christian leadership paradoxes is that the leader is not a boss but a servant – someone who follows the footsteps of Jesus who washed the disciples’ feet (John 13:1-20; 1 Peter 2:21). The Servant Leadership value does not seek personal recognition; instead, it is to esteem our Lord Jesus Christ.

Project: Sound Engineering Workshop

Purpose

Create a three-session workshop, consisting of three one-hour sessions, which that includes interaction and, as the church allows, hands-on work with sound equipment. This workshop has two objectives:

  • Exercise servant leadership by providing additional training to our church sound team.
  • Encourage sound team volunteers to think theologically about what may seem to be a very non-theological task.

Strategies

Session 1: A Theology of Sound Engineering

A look at sound engineering and the role of a sound engineer from a Trinitarian and theological perspective. This may include aspects of mediation, creation, and service, among others.

Session 2: Sound Engineering Basics

Basics of sound engineering, including safety and principles of operating sound equipment. Ideas include “microphones are flashlights,” stage management from a safety and organizational perspective, and an introduction to the hierarchy of sound.

Session 3: Advanced Sound Engineering Techniques

Advanced techniques include instrument balance, “riding” faders, an introduction to the frequency spectrum and equalization, and effects.
